Chat Modes, Banned Words, Link Protection

1. Chat Modes

1

Followers-Only Mode, Slow Mode & Subscribers-Only Mode

  1. 1Go to dashboard.kick.com/stream.
  2. 2Followers-Only Mode: Toggle to ON and set the minimum follow duration — recommended 15 minutes — to block throwaway accounts from instantly typing in your chat.
  3. 3Slow Mode: Set a rate limit per user (e.g., 5s or 10s delay between messages) to keep high-traffic chat readable.
  4. 4Subscribers-Only Mode: Toggle ON during exclusive community events or sub-only broadcasts.
  5. 5Moderators are always exempted from all three modes.

2. Banned Words & Auto-Moderation

1

Add Banned Words

  1. 1Go to dashboard.kick.com/moderation/banned-words.
  2. 2Type a prohibited term in the Add banned word field and press Enter.
  3. 3Recommended baseline terms: profanity, hate speech, and gambling/scam spam.
  4. 4Example scam keywords: casino, slot, pgslot, directweb, deposit-withdraw, line@.
  5. 5Messages containing these words are silently blocked before they appear in chat — viewers never see them.
Moderation → Banned Words — adding prohibited terms to the filter list
2

Block Disruptive Emotes

  1. 1KICK's Banned Words filter only matches exact text and doesn't support wildcards — it's easy for viewers to bypass in practice.
  2. 2For more flexible emote or word filtering, use BotRix or KickBot instead (see the Chatbot Setup guide).
⚠️

Banned Words vs "Deleted by Moderator": Banned Words block messages before they ever appear in chat. If you see "deleted by moderator," that message was removed after being posted — either manually by a mod or retroactively by a chatbot like BotRix.

3. Link Protection, Chat Rules & Commands

1

Enable Link Protection

  1. 1At dashboard.kick.com/chat/settings, toggle Block Links to ON.
  2. 2This blocks all URL postings from general viewers.
  3. 3Streamer and Moderators are automatically exempted — they can always post links.
Chat Settings — Block Links prevents viewers from posting URLs (mods exempted)
2

Set Up Channel Rules

  1. 1Go to dashboard.kick.com/moderation/display.
  2. 2Type your community rules in the Chat Rules text box.
  3. 3Click Save Changes.
  4. 4First-time viewers will see an 'I Agree' pop-up and must accept before sending their first message.
Moderation → Display — set channel rules that viewers must agree to before chatting
💡

Want Subscribers to post links but block Followers? KICK's native Block Links is all-or-nothing. For role-based URL permissions, use BotRix — see BotRix Functions.

Q

How can I block scam links while still allowing Subscribers to share links?

A

KICK's native Block Links toggle applies globally to all non-mod viewers. For Subscriber-only link permissions, configure URL Protection via BotRix (BotRix Functions).

Q

Why doesn't Banned Words catch every variation of a spam term?

A

KICK's Banned Words filter only matches exact text and doesn't support wildcards. For more flexible filtering, use BotRix or KickBot instead.
